Kings Prepares for Homecoming Dance

This year’s ticket reflects the theme of the homecoming dance, reminiscent of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, The Great Gatsby.

Kings High School students are preparing for the upcoming homecoming dance, which will take place on Saturday, September 29th from 8-11pm in the high school gym.

The homecoming dance is a semi-formal school dance that occurs every fall on the Saturday after the homecoming football game. Some students choose to attend with a date, but many others choose to go with a group of friends.

Although elaborate homecoming proposals started happening last week, student council members have been busy planning the homecoming dance since the school year began. The theme they have agreed on for the dance is the 1920s, Gatsby style.

“We were kind of just shouting out random ideas for the theme, someone said 20s and everyone just kind of liked the idea,” described student council president Jordan Harkins. “The main way that we’re going to implement the theme is through the decorations. The main colors for the dance are gold and black.”

Students should expect a crowded dance this year, according to King.

“Be prepared: there will be a lot of students there,” she said. “Last year, we sold about 900 tickets and this year, we’re probably going to sell more than that, so be prepared. It’s going to be hot and sweaty and a lot of students.”

If you are interested in attending the homecoming dance, King says to check your school email for a Google form that must be filled out before you are allowed to buy your ticket. Attached to the email is also a guest request form for students bringing a date who does not attend KHS and a document with additional information about the dance if you have more questions.

The last day to purchase tickets is Friday, September 28th and tickets will not be sold at the door of the dance. They will be for sale during all three lunches on these dates as well as before school in Mrs. King’s classroom, A117.
